Woods and Water Oil Paintings

Take off your shoes and dip your toes in the water.

Fall Stream

There is always something about that walk in the fall near a clear stream, be it the crunch of the crisp leaves underfoot or the smell of the earth, or the sound of the water touching the banks.  Who knows what it is, but you know you are content as you watch nature at her finest.

Easy Path

Which way to explore?  Should you go down by the water and step through the low brush as you enjoy the beauty of what is before you, perhaps skipping a rock or two across the water?  Or should you take the easy path where you can stop and view the lake from the safety of higher ground?

Backlit Oaks

Enjoying the serenity of just being by yourself, you notice how bright the fog ahead is, how it obscures the view.  The bright light glaring through the mist beckons you to move forward to see what beauty is there, shrouded in mystery.  You know before too long, the mist will lift.  You slow your pace to soak it in before it changes into a different majesty.

Golden Light

The sun breaks through the misty fog as you walk along the route you walked many times as a boy.  The humidity makes the cool morning temperature feel warmer than it really is.  You are wearing business dress shoes now, but somehow you are taken back to a simpler time as you reminisce about the dust on your feet and between your toes as you meander down a familiar path, but one from far too long ago.

Witt Family Farm

(Commission)

This painting was commissioned by a customer who wanted to capture the memories of her grandfather's farm in Southern Louisianna.  I emphasized the locale with an unpaved road, the cattle guard, the live oak, and the growth along the fence line.  Her grandfather's dull red barn was brought in as the focal point with the aforementioned items as supporting cast.

Sentinel

The gnarled body of the oak shows his time spent on guard over the field.  How many restful hours were taken under shade provided at the noon hour to recoup strength before finishing out the day.  Refuge was sought from many a thunderstorm by man and cattle alike.  Now, the branches are broken, and the field is not plowed.  Time waits for no man.  And eventually nature recaptures her own.
