The prairie grass sways in the breeze kissing the prickly pear cactus. Outcropping of sandstone rock appear randomly. Cedar and other scrub brush p0p up as they will. The tractor path and fence line take the viewer back to the old barns and farm equipment as cloud cover randomly shadows areas.

The mixture of Texas flora overlooks a ranch still in operation but has seen better days. The winding dirt road still has yet to be paved as it leads the passerby onto the next farm over the hills.

Like so many Texans, we venture out to see the wildflowers across Texas every spring. Nothing makes the State flower stand out more than the Giant Live Oak. Follow the path and see where else it leads.

The evening has come to a close. The warm sky glistens and distinct shadows have appeared. The faint light reaching the path in front of you silhouettes the prickly pear cactus and the trees. A few birds make their way home while there is still light. Better head back to the cabin as well before all of the light is gone.

The tired old homestead has run its course. The asphalt siding has lost its luster, the galvanized roof has rusted and given way to father time, and the fence is only posts that once stood straight. Proud owners have long gone from the land taking their dreams and their memories with them.
